Traffic: ATL vs. ILM
Since we moved to Wilmington, North Carolina from Atlanta, Georgia in November 2017, we have heard stories from the locals that the ‘traffic is terrible!’. Jeff and I snickered every time we heard this. Coming from Atlanta, traffic nightmare of the South, it would take sometimes 1.5 hours to even run a simple errand on a given day. In Wilmington, the time it takes to get from Monkey Junction to Downtown or Mayfaire is usually 20 minutes. Amazing! There really isn’t a ‘bad’ area to live. Traffic wise.
In Atlanta, we lived in a Northern suburb, Alpharetta, that was about 20 miles or so North of Buckhead. You had to make plans around traffic patterns so you weren’t stuck in a parking lot on Georgia 400 or I-285. Now, travelling around town is a D-R-E-A-M. I’m still amazed I can leave 15-20 minutes before an appointment and usually arrive early. Anytime of the day or night. My ‘traffic’ stress level has dropped to zero from 100.
Jeff and I are waiting to see what the Spring and Summer holds. I can imagine the bridges to the two closest beaches, Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach, will be backed up on sunny days. 30-45 minute delay to get to a beach? Piece of cake. Beats 5.5 to 6 hours to get to a beach from Atlanta! We will keep you posted… #ILM #ATL #beachlife
